Set in Miño, A Coruña, in Spain, the project for this ancient water mill, set in splendid natural surroundings, was an exercise in design and subtle intervention with the aim of emphasising the beauty of the building within its environment.

In accordance with the remit, the interior remodelling involved creating different spaces by using the freestanding walls of the original mill construction. This highlighted the stone walls and original wooden roof, which had to be entirely rebuilt whilst retaining the original chestnut joists. Special attention was paid to the layout of these spaces in order to create a relationship between the new intervention, the original mill interior and the views.
