Set in Los Llanos de Purla, in the valley of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, this hotel project shows a direct and intimate relationship between architecture and landscape. This comprehensive remodelling of an existing building, somewhat restricted by being in a protected area, was designed to maximise clients’ enjoyment of the architecture and the natural environment thanks to the nature of the hotel, which has been converted into a wellness retreat and spa. The image and characteristic features of Asian architecture with links to the philosophy of the hotel and its function were superimposed in an attempt to create a sensory sanctuary.

In this project, which covered the two existing floors, we developed a spa zone in the basement, with large windows on one side overlooking the gardens which lead down to the river. The first floor houses the lobby, with the main entrance, and the restaurant. It ends over a large open courtyard around which the hotel’s fourteen rooms are arranged. Outdoor paths and routes with courtyards and ponds with waterfalls were designed to connect with a gazebo atop large wooden stilts with an African reed roof where users can enjoy the views of the hotel and the surrounding valley.
