This house is located on a plot in the central area of La Zagaleta complex, in Benahavís. The plot is in a dominant position, which favours its southwest facing location, with uninterrupted views over La Zagaleta golf course and as far as the Strait of Gibraltar. The design of this house follows the patterns of more classic architecture, but making the lines and volumes more contemporary to produce a sober, elegant architecture.

The spatial distribution is based on a well defined centre: a large double height courtyard covered by a large skylight. The entrance hall, which opens out onto the courtyard, has a curved staircase that provides movement and a visual counterpoint to the predominant linearity. from this hall, we take a visual journey through the courtyard and the great hall, and the garden, ending at the pool, which frames the horizon with the Strait of Gibraltar.

All family and social rooms are directly connected and can be divided to create different rooms and sensations. Private rooms are laid out to achieve the required privacy and to ensure that each has a sense of spaciousness whilst retaining its independence. The basement was designed as the main part of the house, creating social living spaces with windows and doors.

The landscape design forms a crucial part of the ensemble; without it the complete project would be impossible to understand. On this occasion, we had the opportunity to implement the design down to the smallest details and choose the materials ourselves, which enabled the creation of a comprehensive design in which each element can be understood as a fundamental piece of the whole.

“An architectural project should always be pleasing to the eye and pleasant to live in.”
